We Are Family Program
Domestic Violence Victim Services and WAFHOME - Emergency Shelter
Physical harm, sexual assault, or reasonable fear that a person may suffer any of the above through a confrontation, violent or otherwise from a member of their immediate or extended family is domestic violence. The definition extends to include those in or formerly in a dating relationship, homosexual relationship, adults related by blood or marriage and those that have a legal or biological parent/child relationship.
Examples of Domestic Violence
• Unwanted touching
• Biting, Kicking, Pushing, Hair pulling, Name Calling
• Intimidation with a weapon
• Fear of physical harm and restraining someone from leaving
• Forced intercourse
• Destruction of the victim's possessions
Domestic Violence Services
This program offers to all eligible residents of Pierce County and the City of Tacoma the following:
• Outreach activities in the communities using bilingual workers to increase an awareness and understanding of domestic violence and how it impacts families
• Family education sessions that are culturally appropriate to address parenting issues in order to achieve violence free homes.
• Bilingual counseling and advocacy for individuals as well as their families.
• Referrals for immediate needed assistance and resources.
• Support group for sexual assault victims.
